JERSEY CITY, NJ…New Jersey City University men’s basketball junior All-America guard DANA JOHN (Hillside, NJ/Pocono Mountain East (Pa.)), a two-time First-Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference selection, and perhaps the most well-known collegiate athlete in any sport in Division III athletics, will be featured for the third time this year on ESPN Television’s family of networks when his remarkable day-in-the-life story is chronicled on the program NCAA On Campus.

The program will have an original air date of Wednesday, March 19 at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN Classic and will re-air seven times over the next month on ESPNU and can also be viewed on the NCAA website, ncaa.org.

John is highlighted in the first portion of the program in the “Beyond the Athlete” segment. The feature, conducted by ESPN reporter Melissa Knowles is roughly six minutes in length. NJCU interim men’s basketball MARC BROWN and senior forward/center MARQUES HILL (Hillside, NJ/Hillside) also appear in the feature.

Also appearing on the program in the “What’s On” segment are two other NJCU student athletes—men’s basketball freshman center RASHAD DAVIS (Newark, NJ/Amherst (MA) and women’s bowling sophomore CANDICE D’ANGELO (Coram, NY/Longwood (NY).

It is the second time that an NJCU athletic program has been featured on NCAA On Campus. The women’s bowling team appeared on the show on January 9, 2006 when it was a Fox Sports Net program.

For John, labeled “The Most Exhausted Man in Sports” by ESPN, it is the fifth major national exposure he—and the NJCU men’s basketball program—have received this season. John appeared on ESPN Television on December 11, 2007 as part of the primetime Newsmagazine program E:60. He was also featured in a five-page article in the December 17 issue of ESPN The Magazine. On December 5, his story was introduced nationally on the program ESPN First Take on ESPN2. He also appeared in College Hoops Illustrated this winter.

NCAA On Campus will chronicle a typical 24-hour day in John’s life during the basketball season. John, a 27-year-old star shooting guard for the Knights, has had his tale of perseverance, diligence and dedication highlighted in numerous national publications and on local, regional and national television over the last two seasons since breaking onto the scene as among the top guards in the country.

For three years, he has managed to balance a successful basketball career with a full-time, five-day-per-week job with the United States Post Office—working the graveyard from midnight to 8:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday—while maintaining a full-time academic course load, basketball practice/games, and family commitments that include caring for his four-year-old son and handicapped nephew. He is majoring in Special Education at NJCU.

After never playing organized basketball at any level prior to attending NJCU as a freshman in 2005-06, he had emerged into among the top players in the Atlantic Region. He was named a preseason All-American by D3hoops.com.

This season he has already become NJCU’s all-time leader in career three-pointers with 209 and counting and currently ranks 14th in school history with 1,281 career points—among the top scoring totals after three seasons in the 75-year history of the program.

In 25 games in 2007-08, many played with a sprained ankle and a broken bone in his face, he averaged 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.3 assists per game as the Gothic Knights finished 14-12. NJCU recorded its 33rd consecutive winning season and 38th straight year of .500 or better—both the second longest streaks in Division III history. NJCU also qualified for the postseason for the 26th year in a row. He was named First-Team All-NJAC for the second straight year with other post-season awards scheduled to be announced later this month.
