HOFFMAN MAKES 23 SAVES IN LOSS TO #6/11 TCNJ

- Brittany Hoffman stopped 23 shots against the nation's No. 6 ranked women's soccer side. She is now second in school history with 483 stops.

Box Score EWING, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Under heavy pressure, two-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference junior goalkeeper BRITTANY HOFFMAN (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) registered 23 saves but New Jersey City University lost to a nationally ranked New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer foe for the third time this year, dropping a 7-0 decision at No. 6/11 ranked The College of New Jersey on October 26 at the TCNJ Soccer Complex.

currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in saves per game, upper her season average to 14.58 per contest and moved into second place in school history in total saves (483). She reached double figures in saves for the 20th time in her career and eighth consecutive game, while stopping 10 chances in the first half and 13 more in the second period. NJCU leads the nation in saves per game behind Hoffman.
 
TCNJ (14-1-1, 6-1-1 NJAC), winners of six of the last eight NJAC championships and 15 of 19 in the history in the conference, entered the game ranked No. 6 nationally by D3soccer.com, 11th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and third in the NCAA Division III/NSCAA South Atlantic Regional poll. The Lions outshot NJCU, 62-0, including a 30-0 edge in shots on goal and held a 19-0 margin in corner kicks. TCNJ was whistled for 14 offsides. NJCU fell to 1-10-1 (0-8-0) in its final road game of the season.
 
Five different players ultimately scored for TCNJ, which led 5-0 at the half. The Lions netted goals in the 7th, 32nd, 37th, 44th and 45th minutes in the opening half, with the latter two goals separated by 38 seconds. The hosts added second half tallies in the 69th and 87th minutes.
 
For TCNJ, Lauren Malajian scored twice and added an assist, tallying the second and sixth Lion goals while assisting on the seventh. Christina Roach collected her first two goals of 2013, scoring the Lions' fourth and seventh goals. Justine Larocca finished with two assists, coming on the fifth and sixth tallies.
 
TCNJ also received single goals from Shannon White, Christine Levering and Chalen Noble and assists on the first two goals by Sarah Marion and Brianna Petro. White's goal at 6:48 proved to be the game-winner; Levering's marker at 36:05 was her ninth of the season.
 
The Lions used three keepers with Kendra Griffith unchallenged in net to attain her 14th win in 31:44 of action. Cristina Gacos and Jessica Weeder split the remaining time, seeing 30:48 and 27:28, respectively. The Lions combined on the team's ninth shutout of the season.
 
NJCU closes its 21st season of intercollegiate women's soccer on Wednesday, October 30 at 2:30 p.m. when it hosts Rutgers University-Camden at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field. NJCU will honor its lone senior, defender KARLA REYES-ABRIL (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) prior to the game.

  • BRITTANY HOFFMAN now has 483 career saves and eclipsed Gina Sgroi (2002-03, 470 saves) for second in school history. Amanda Cobb (1997-00, 66 games) holds the school record of 1,114 saves, which was the NCAA's all-divisions, all-genders career record upon her graduation (since surpassed by Emily Epperson of Wesleyan (GA) with 1,127 in 67 games (2007-10). NJCU lost its eighth consecutive game since a 1-1-1 start to the season.
