STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The New Jersey City University men's track and field team competed at the Fastrack Last Chance Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday, February 28. The team collected several personal records and had a few impossibly close misses for ECAC Championship qualification.
 
Jon DeJesus (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) came a tenth of a second from qualification in the 60 Meter Dash; Xavier Freeman (Newark, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) came a tenth of a second from qualification in the 200; Tyshon Johnson (Newark, NJ/People's Prep Charter) was two tenths of a second off in the 60; Jason Garcia (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) three tenths of a second in the 200; two others were just a second off, and two more just two seconds off ECAC qualification. 
 
The Knights did have plenty of personal bests, however. Among the many PRs for NJCU: Freeman in the 200 (23.06), Garcia in the 200 (23.34), Kalel Redd (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) in the 500 (1:10.68), DeJesus in the 200 (23.47), Emmanuel Chinonso Abarah (Irvington, NJ/Irvington) in the 500 (1:11.44), Samuel Colon III (Newark, NJ/Eagle Academy) in the 500 (1:11.70), Adnan Kpodo (Irvington, NJ/Irvington) in the 1000 (2:44.15), Javier Baez (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) in the Shot Put (10.76), Matthew Davis (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) in the 60 (9.24), Ali Chaudhry (Jersey City, NJ/Ferris) in the 800 (2:16..90), Ben Harder (South River, NJ/South River) in the 1000 (2:16.56), and Muhammed Jawneh (South River, NJ/South River) in the 800 (2:07.01).

NJCU will now wait and see about their 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800 Meter Relay Teams, as well as their Distance Medley Relay Team to learn if they will qualify for ECACs. They will learn later this week.

NJCU finishes their season at the ECAC Indoor Championships. The meet will take place over March 6-7 at the New Balance Track & Field Center in Manhattan, N.Y.
