The John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) is the 72,000-square foot home of the Gothic Knight basketball and volleyball programs and the focal point for the NJCU athletic department and recreation and intramural activities. The JMAC opened in the fall of 1994, giving the University one of the finest indoor recreational facilities in the area. The state-of-the-art building features a 2,000-seat basketball and volleyball arena, a fully-equipped exercise and fitness center, a 25-yard swimming and diving pool with adjacent sauna, three racquetball courts, a tenth-of-a-mile elevated jogging track, a multi-purpose room for aerobics and classes, and locker room space for teams, students, faculty and staff.
The administrative offices for the Department of Athletics and the Sports & Leisure Studies Department are housed on the mezzanine level of the building. The indoor track teams also practice on the JMAC’s elevated jogging track, which was resurfaced in 2005.
The Fitness Center rivals most health clubs and features Paramount weight training equipment, an extensive set of free weight stations, Stairmasters, rowing machines and treadmills. Personal training programs can be developed for students and members of the Fitness Center.
For recreation and practice, the main arena features three full basketball/volleyball courts when the bleacher seats are retracted.
Locker room facilities are located on the main level with direct access to the pool area. A wide range of aquatic classes are offered from scuba diving to beginners classes.
The multi-purpose room features a wooden floor which is perfect for aerobic classes offered through the Sports & Leisure Studies Department.
The lower varsity level houses a modern athletic training facility, athletic team locker rooms, and an equipment distribution and laundry facility.
While the JMAC is available to all students, a limited number of memberships are reserved for the general public and for senior citizens. Corporate memberships are also available. To tour the JMAC, or for information about membership, please contact the facility manager at 201-200-2155.
