Barbara B. Leppert Schiner

Barbara Leppert Schiner was an outstanding fencer for four years and fenced in the No. 2 position for the 1978 JCSC team that won the New Jersey Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Championship and finished fourth in the National Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championship. The team finished the season with an excellent 19-4 record.

 

She was a team captain for three years and held a “C” classification status as a fencer. She was a Junior Olympian in 1975 and won the NIWFA Christmas Invitational in 1976. As a four-year letter winner in fencing, Leppert Schiner posted a 183-134 individual match record which included a 52-30 record as a senior and a 55-29 mark as a sophomore. She becomes the thirteenth JCSC woman fencer to be inducted into College’s Hall of Fame. Leppert Schiner served as sports editor for the student newspaper, The Gothic Times, and was the Student Government Organization’s athletics treasurer. She earned both her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education (1978) and her master of arts in supervision (1983) from JCSC. She is married to current JCSC Director of Athletics and 1980 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Larry Schiner. They become the second couple to enter the Hall of Fame. A resident of Manalapan, she has taught physical education and health at Union Hill High School, her alma mater, for 18 years.
