Brett, the only Gothic athlete to have his number retired, holds six all-time Jersey City State basketball records; most points, career (2,292, 11th highest in NCAA Division III history); most points, season (667); goals, game (52, fifth highest in Division III annals); most field goals, game (24); most field goals, season (277); most field goals, career (963).
The “most honored athlete in Gothic sports history,” says Hall of Famer Nich Sardone, Brett was first-team All-Conference and first-team New Jersey College Division four straight years. He was named to the All-American Division III First Team by the National Basketball Coaches Association in 1979, as well as being selected MVP in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional Tournament. Additionally, during the same year he received the New Jersey State Athletic Conference Senior Athlete Award and the New Jersey Basketball Writer’s College Division Senior Award.
He led the 1979 Gothics (24-5) to a league title, the NCAA South Atlantic regional championship and a ranking as the number one college division team in the state.
