The winner of eight varsity letters in his four years at JCS, Dave was one of the most versatile athletes to play for the Gothics. He was coached by Bob McNulty in soccer and Larry Babich in baseball. A standout goalie in soccer, Malefsky holds the record for most shutouts in a career (16). He had a record 9 shutouts while posting a 1.1 goals against average as a junior. Dave earned District All-American (N.J., Penna., Del.) honors in both 1973 and 1975 and also received New Jersey State College Athletic Conference recognition in all four years.
In his four year varsity baseball career, Dave was a standout performer leading the Gothics in hitting in 1975 with a .383 average. He still holds the school record for triples for both season (8) and career (10) and tied for RBI’s (17) in his senior year. In 1977, Dave was selected to the NJSCAC second team and finished his collegiate career by being chosen to participate in the First New Jersey-College All-Star Baseball game.
