Denis is regarded by many as the best all-round player in Gothic basketball history. He was one of only three JCS players to lead the New Jersey State College Athletic Conference in scoring two years in a row.
While playing only two varsity seasons, after transferring from Loyola University in New Orleans, Richardson scored 938 points and earned a host of basketball honors under Hall of Fame Coaches Ollie Gelston and Larry Schiner. He was selected to the New Jersey College Division first team in both 1967 and 1968. Richardson was also an NJSCAC first team pick in both of his varsity seasons and was named honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1967.
Highlight wins during Denis’ career were an 89-74 victory over Morgan State and a season ending 57-54 upset win over Montclair State that earned the Gothics an NAIA District 31 playoff berth in 1968.
