Emily was an outstanding member of four women’s fencing teams under Coach Tom Gerrity. She won the New Jersey State Championship in 1966 and finished sixth in the national intercollegiate meet that same year. She was a member of the gold medal winning Pan American team in 1971. In 1971, she finished fourth in the nationals. Emily was also a member of the world championship team in Vienna, Austria, in 1971 and again in 1973 in Gotesburg, Sweden. She won the New Jersey individual championship in 1975 and the Mid-Atlantic individual championship title in 1976. Three times she was a finalist in Canada’s Man and His World tournament. She coached the Jersey City State College women’s fencing team in 1971 and again from 1973-1978. The 1978 team won the New Jersey National Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Association Championship and earned national ranking.
