John played varsity basketball for four years and was the team captain each season. According to his former coach and athletic Hall of Famer, John Reckzeh, “he displayed outstanding leadership both on and off the court.” He was one of the most consistent performers during his career averaging 13.1 points a game in 1949 and 13.4 points a game a year later. In addition to his scoring, he was the team’s leading playmaker. During his freshman season, Jersey City State defeated archrival St. Peter’s College, 53-44. John is currently the principal of Emerson High School.
