Jersey City State College won the National Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Championships in both 1942 and 1943, the first national titles in its history. Josephine Schappert Hoffman and Irene Gaczynski Brierley, were members of both teams, while Mildred Fraise Botti was a star on the 1942 squad and Mildred Mackey won a brilliant 4-3 bout and Jersey City railed to score the next five straight and register a 6-3 victory for its second straight title.
