Susan was a member of the women’s fencing and tennis teams earning her letter in both sports for three years. A member of the top-ranked college fencing team (rated by Newark Star-Ledger) in 1970, she finished fourth at the Eastern Seaboard Fencing Championships that year and was also a member of the No. 1 seeded team at the 1970 Intercollegiate Fencing Championships. Susan was also captain of the 1971 JCSC women’s fencing team. She qualified for the National Fencing Championships held at the University of California-Berkeley in 1971. She was undefeated during the regular season that year. In Tennis, Susan played both singles and doubles. She was undefeated in regular season play during her four years of competition.
Following graduation, Susan continued to excel in both sports as both participant and coach. She was ranked first in women’s 25 (age group) singles in Nebraska in 1979 and was ranked third in women’s 35 (age group) singles and seventh in doubles in Texas in 1985. She also won the Coca Cola Open in both women’s 35 (age group) singles and doubles in 1988. In fencing, Susan earned a “C” classification in 1972 and participated in the National Fencing Championships in 1978.
She is currently a school guidance counselor at Labay Junior High School in the Cypress-Fairbank school district in Houston, Texas. Her school was one of 69 junior high schools in the country to be named a National Exemplary School.
