Walter Smith holds every JCSC season and career passing record which he established during his three seasons as starting quarter-back (1983-85). As a junior in 1984, he was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro NY-NJ Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-ECAC Metro NY-NJ quarterback while earning Associated Press Little All-America honorable mention. Smith was selected as the All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) first-team quarter-back in 1984 and 1985. He claimed the ECAC Metro NY-NJ Rookie of the Year award and was named the All-NJAC second- team quarterback in 1983. He led the Gothic Knights to back-to-back winning seasons in 1984 (5-4) and 1985 (6-4) for their first winning seasons since 1973. Smith holds the JCSC football records for single-game, season and career total offense (380, 1,986 and 5,715 yards); season and career passing yardage (1,959 and 5,356); season and career passing attempts (295 and 830); season and career pass completions (159 and 413); single -game, season and career touchdown passes (4, 15 and 38); and the longest touchdown pass (80 yards). He completed his bachelor of science degree in business at JCSC in 1987. A resident of Secaucus, where he coaches in the recreational football league, Smith has been employed by the Keebler Company for 14 years. He and his wife Ann Marie have two daughters, Kaitlin and Megan.
