The New Jersey City University men's volleyball team has been selected as one of three finalists among schools in Division I, II and III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the Volleyball Market/AVCA Men's Player of the Year. All voting will be conducted online through 5 p.m. on May 6 at http://www.avca.org/awards/play-of-the-week/. The winner of the Play of the Year will be announced on May 7.

The nominated highlight occurred on February 15 when the Gothic Knights hosted New York City College of Technology at home at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center. At 13-12 of the second set of a match won by NJCU, 3-0, junior opposite AJ SAFAVI (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) is blocked on an attack attempt but never gives up on the play, leaping over the scorer's table in desperation to cover. The terrific hustle play was captured on film on the far side of the court.

Also in consideration for the Play of the Year accolade are a pair of Division I schools. A highlight of a match-winning solo block by Ball State University against then-No. 3 Cal State Northridge University is one candidate while The University of Hawai'i is also a finalist for a kill off the top of a UC Irvine player's head.

All schools in the country were eligible for the Play of the Year based on nominations throughout the 2010 season.
