NJCU senior point guard and co-captain ALEX MIRABEL (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week after earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Albright College/Sheraton-New Year's Tournament, while contributing to a 1-1 week for the Gothic Knights.
In two games, Mirabel posted averaged of 9.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, shooting 42.1 percent (8-19) from the field. He had a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio.
In NJCU's opening round win over Lycoming College on January 5, 59-56, Mirabel scored nine points, with six assists, five rebounds and two steals, and did not commit a turnover. He shot 4-of-9 from the field (.444). His free throw with 2.0 seconds left helped the Knights ice the game.
In NJCU's 94-71 loss to Albright in the championship game, he collected 10 points, and the 6-foot-0 four-year starter grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. He added two assists and two steals, shooting 4-of-10.
Overall this season, Mirabel is averaging 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game, and is shooting 70.5 percent from the line (31-44). He is the team leader in assists, third in rebounding and fifth in scoring.
In the NJAC statistical report through January 3, Mirabel ranks second in assist/turnover ratio, third in minutes per game (32.40), tied for fourth in assists, 10th in free throw percentage and offensive rebounding, tied for 18th in rebounding, and 27th in the NJAC in scoring.
