The rookie from the mountains had another stellar week defensively. In three matches (11 sets), Sunahara combined for 54 digs—averaging 4.90 digs per set—including a combined 47 in two matches of a weekend tri-match. It was her third and fourth career match with 20+ digs and she has reached double figures in digs in 11 of her 17 career matches. She is NJCU Athlete of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career.
Sunahara had seven digs in the first match of the week against Rutgers-Newark on October 17 and was perfect on serve receive (no errors). On October 19, she had 20 digs in a match that lasted three sets for the first time, defending 22 digs against Wilkes. Later, in a five-set loss to CUNYAC leaders Baruch College, she provided 25 digs, adding one kill and one ace.
