Sophomore swingman DANA JOHN (Hillside, NJ/Pocono Mountain East) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season after he scored a game-high 19 points, added seven rebounds and two assists, while leading NJCU to a 64-53 win over Richard Stockton College on January 20, snapping the Ospreys seven-game winning streak.
NJCU improved to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The win for NJCU was its fourth consecutive NJAC victory and third straight win overall. The Knights moved into second place in the NJAC North Division.
In what was NJCU's only game of the week, he shot 5-of-11 from the field, 2-of-5 from three-point range and 7-of-9 from the line in 36 minutes.
In the second half of NJCU’s win, John played all 20 minutes, and scored several key baskets. His three-pointer with 11:30 left made it 48-36. Stockton closed to within 55-50 late, and iced the game with a lay-up with 1:18 remaining.
On the season, John is averaging 16.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.2 assists, and 0.7 blocks per game, while shooting 44.2 percent overall (87-197), 37.6 percent from three-point range (41-109), and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line (39-50).
In the NJAC statistical leaders through January 21, he ranks second in three-pointers made per game (2.73), fourth in scoring average and free-throw percentage, fifth in three-point percentage, tied for 10th in blocks, 12th in minutes played (30.20), 13th in defensive rebounding (3.93/game), and 15th in steals.
