Sophomore All-American EBONY BARNES (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year after she qualified for the 2007 NCAA Championship in two events, winning both the 100 and 200-meter dash titles at the Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship on April 22.

 

Barnes was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Women’s co-Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career and also named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for week five of the 2007 season. She led NJCU to a 10^th place team finish at the CTC meet.

 

After finishing second of 25 sprinters in the 100-meter dash preliminaries in 12.40 seconds, she blew away the field in the finals, winning by 3/10 of a second with a time of 12.26 seconds, topping the NCAA provisional time of 12.32. It was the second straight week she qualified for the NCAAs in the 100, after running 12.18 at the New Jersey Invitational on April 14, and she currently owns the 10^th best time in Division III this season.

 

It was more of the same in the 200-meter dash finals, when she crushed the field of 35 sprinters by 3/10^th of a second, winning in 25.19—eclipsing the NCAA provisional mark of 25.29. Her time is the 17^th best in Division III this year as of April 25.
