JOSE FULGENCIO is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row and the third time this season after he extended his hitting streak to 22 consecutive games—the second longest streak in NJCU history—in a week in which he hit .529 (9-17) with five RBIs, and four runs. He had four extra base hits—his NJAC-leading 13th double, two triples and one homerun. He also had a .955 fielding percentage at shortstop, 1.000 slugging percentage and .529 on-base rate.
In NJCU’s 6-2 loss to Ramapo College on April 19, he was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. In a 14-3 loss to #5 ranked Kean University on April 20, he extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a two-run first inning homerun that put the Knights ahead. He was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run.
On April 21 when NJCU split a doubleheader at Rutgers-Camden, the Knights won the opener 7-5 before falling in the nightcap, 11-5. He was a combined 4-for-9 in the two games with one RBI and one run. He had one double in the opener, before notching a pair of triples in game two.
Overall on the season, Fulgencio is also leading the NJAC with 41 RBIs—the second highest single-season total at NJCU and just seven shy of the school record. He leads the team with a .434 average (53-122) with 31 runs, 13 doubles, five triples and three homeruns. He is 20-for-22 in steals, a .697 slugging percentage, and has a .929 fielding percentage at shortstop.
