Senior middle blocker Lizzelle Cintron (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) has been selected as the NJCU co-Women's Athlete of the Week, marking the 26th time in her career she has received the weekly honor. For the 13th time in the last three seasons Cintron was namedthe New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Week, and earned ECAC Division III Player of the Week for the 11th time in four years, after she achieved two more historical milestones, and led the Gothic Knights (8-1) to the championship of the Endicott College Invitational.

Cintron moved into fifth place in Division III history in kills with 2,394, and now ranks No. 1 all-time in Division III history for players whose careers have occurred entirely during the rally scoring era (2001-present). She entered the week with 2999.5 career points. She had double-doubles in four of NJCU’s five matches, giving her 89 career double-doubles.

For the week, Cintron averaged 7.76 points, 6.41 kills, 3.71 digs, 1.47 blocks and 0.35 aces per game while hitting .380 overall. She posted 132.0 points, 109 kills, 63 digs, 25 blocks and six aces in 17 games over five matches.

Cintron was an obvious choice for Most Valuable Player of the Endicott College Invitational, as she led NJCU to a clean sweep of quality New England opponents when NJCU defeated Bowdoin College (3-1), Salve Regina University (3-1), longtime national powerhouse Springfield College (3-2) and host Endicott College (3-0) in the title match. It was the ninth time in her remarkable career that she has been named the MVP of a tournament.

In NJCU’s 3-2 win over powerhouse Springfield College (30-16, 27-30, 25-30, 30-14, 15-4) on September 8 she recorded her 16th career match with 30 or more kills and eighth career triple double, finishing with 33 kills (33-9-58) and .414 hitting percentage, 18 digs, 10 blocks and 40.5 points.

In the championship match against Endicott College (30-19, 36-34, 30-19) on September 8, she hit a staggering .526 rate with 23 kills (23-3-38), 12 digs, five blocks, two aces, and 29.0 points.

In a 3-1 win over Bowdoin (30-27, 30-15, 28-30, 30-14), she bagged 22 kills (22-4-40), hit .450, and added 12 digs, and four blocks. While playing a mere one game in NJCU’s victory over Salve Regina —the fourth game—she still had 19 digs, nine kills, and hit .375 (9-3-16). Both matches were on September 7.

In NJCU’s only loss of the week at #23 ranked Stevens Institute of Technology (30-15, 30-21, 26-30, 30-18) on September 5, she finished with a match-high 22 kills, and collected 11 digs, five blocks and two aces in what was tabbed the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Match of the Week. Cintron had entered that match with a career total of 2,285 kills, and moved past two players on the all-time list for fifth place on the NCAA Division III career list and into first place during the rally scoring era.
