WEEK of: SEPTEMBER 10-16, 2007

For the 27th time in her career, senior middle blocker Lizzelle Cintron (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week. She has also been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row and 14th time in three years, as she became the first player in the history of the NJAC to record 3,000 career points, registered her 90th career double-double and moved into 18th place in Division I, II and III history in career kills with 2,441, as NJCU went 2-0 last week to improve to 9-1 overall.

In eight games over two matches, she averaged 6.69 points, 5.88 kills, 2.62 digs, 0.88 blocks and 0.25 aces, while hitting .446. She tallied 47 kills, 21 digs, seven blocks and two aces.

In NJCU’s 3-0 (30-20, 30-12, 30-25) sweep of William Paterson University in Wayne on September 11 in the first NJAC match of the year, she planted 24 kills in three games (8.00 per game), hit .647 in the match (24-2-34), and added seven digs and one block.

In NJCU’s 3-2 (30-23, 24-30, 30-9, 27-30, 15-6) victory over defending CUNYAC champion Hunter College on September 13, she helped NJCU extend it’s home court winning streak to 33 straight, as she finished with 23 kills (23-8-49), hit .306, and added 14 digs and six blocks. She entered the day 20th in women’s collegiate volleyball history, and passed Division II Pace University’s Andreea Cotoranu (2,411, 2000-03) and Findlay University’s Deanne Behnfeldt (2,437, 1998-01) on the NCAA’s all-time, all-divisions list. Cintron needs 18 more kills for fourth place in Division III history.

As of September 14, Cintron leads the NJAC in kills (193) and is tops in kills per game (5.68) by almost two per game over anyone else in the league (3.87, Maureen Hennecke, Ramapo). She also is first in total blocks (36), total points (232.5) and points per game (6.84)—2.02 per game higher than second place Audrey O’Donnell of Richard Stockton College (4.82 per game). Additionally, Cintron ranks second in hitting percentage (.404) and blocks per game (1.06), tied for third in total digs (111) and fourth in digs per game (3.26).
