WEEK of: OCTOBER 8-14, 2007

For the first time in his career, junior center midfielder JONATHAN BILBAO (Carteret, NJ/St. Benedict’s Prep) has been named the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week after he led the Gothic Knights to a 3-0 week, including two NJAC victories.

He had the game-winning goal in each NJAC victory as NJCU improved to 13-3-0 and 6-1-0 and claimed sole possession of first place in the conference at the latest point in the season in school history.

In a 1-0 victory at Rutgers-Newark on October 10, Bilbao was taken down in the box at 78:18. The junior co-captain calmly drilled the ensuing penalty kick into the lower left side of the net for his sixth goal of the year.

On October 13, Bilbao helped the Gothic Knights accomplished perhaps the most significant regular season victory in the 49-year history of the men’s soccer program, defeating #10 ranked Montclair State University, for the first time since 1986, by a 3-0 margin, to gain sole possession of first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Just 3:11 into the game, Bilbao was dragged down on the left side of the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Bilbao, buried his seventh goal of the season past MSU junior keeper Nick Mele (Delran, NJ/Delran) into the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead. He is now 4-for-4 in penalty kicks in his career, including two in regulation.

Bilbao, whose twin brother Edison Bilbao scored two second half goals in the MSU win, leads the NJAC in assists (9) and assists per game (0.60), and ranks fifth in the NJAC in total points (23), seventh in points per game (1.53), 10th in goals (7) and goals per game (0.47).
