WEEK of: DECEMBER 10-16, 2007
For the 11th time in his career and the third week in a row, junior All-America guard DANA JOHN (Hillside, NJ/Pocono Mountain East (Pa.)) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week. In what has been a week of major national media exposure for the Gothic Knight captain, John reached a major career milestone, becoming the 26th member of NJCU’s 1,000-point club in this, the 75th season of men’s basketball at the University. In a 2-0 week for NJCU (6-3), John averaged 22.0 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 34.0 minutes, shooting .400 from the field and .714 from the line (10-14).

In a 72-66, non-conference win over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn, John, who finished with 22 points and shot 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, scored his 1,000th career point at the stripe in the 65th game of his career. After he was fouled while converting a fast-break lay-up with 16:40 remaining in the second half for his 998th point, St. Joseph’s was issued a technical foul, and John calmly sank both foul shots to join the exclusive club. He is the first NJCU player to reach the milestone since Mark Washington also accomplished the feat as a junior on February 9, 2005. John scored 13 of his team-high 22 in the second half.

John also scored when it counted most. With a nine-point lead down to two with 3:00 left, John nailed the 168th three-pointer of his career with 2:03 remaining to increase the margin to five, 68-63. John sealed the win with two more foul shots with 18.2 on the clock.

On December 11, John appeared on ESPN Television as part of the program E:60.

In a 66-58 win over John Jay College on December 12, John’s late game heroics clinched the win as he intercepted a pass at half court and laid in a fast-break basket with 1:04 remaining for two of his game-high 22 points, and NJCU closed the final 3:56 of the game on a 12-0 run.

John moved into 23rd place in school history with 1,031 points in 66 games, passing Stan Chapman (1009, 1977-81) and Ben O’Neill (1024, 1961-65) on the all-time list. NJCU improved to 16-4 all-time when John scores 20+ in a game.

John finished with a game-high 22 points (8-19 FG, 5-14 3FG), along with seven rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes. He scored 14 in the first half, as he shot 5-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. He missed his first three triples before converting four of his next five.

Through December 17, John ranks second in the NJAC in total points (196), scoring average (21.8), threes made (29) and threes per game (3.22). He is also second in minutes played (33.11), seventh in free throw percentage (.789), eighth in steals (2.11), 14th in defensive rebounding (3.78), and tied for 20th in rebounding (4.7).
