For the first time in his career, freshman DEAN McCLEESE (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week, after he won the 100-meter dash and was second in a field of 72 runners in the 200-meter dash at the Osprey Open on April 5.
McCleese finished first of 54 sprinters in the 100 meters, clocking 11.12 seconds. McCleese, who had already qualified for the ECAC Championship in the 100 meters last week, did so in the 200 meters with a mark of 22.18 seconds, good for second in the huge 72-man field.
McCleese ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay, which was just 7/100th of a second shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championship. NJCU finished first of 19 schools in an ECAC time of 42.07 seconds—winning the relay by 32/100th of a second.
In the 4x400-meter relay, McCleese anchored a tandem that was third of 22 and first among Division III entrants, in an ECAC time of 3:21.47.
