WEEK of: DECEMBER 17-31, 2007
Senior three-time All-American VICKI SPRATFORD (Hopelawn, NJ/Woodbridge) is locked in right now as perhaps the best bowler in the country in Division I, II or III. After earning Most Valuable Player honors for her second consecutive tournament and placing among the Top 5 in an event for the third time this year, Spratford is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week for the third time this season and 11th time in her career.

At the FDU Holiday Jamboree on December 27-29, Spratford won her second consecutive tournament and did so in convincing fashion with a 10-game pinfall of 2,193 and a 219.3 average—a staggering 151 pin advantage over the rest of the talented field.

In five games on December 28 she had a 227.0 average and 1,135 total wood (224, 172, 233, 297, 209). In a victory over Adelphi University, Spratford nearly converted the first perfect game of her life. Vying for the second 300 game in NJCU history, Spratford settled for the third highest game in the program’s illustrious history—a 297. She opened with 11 strikes before missing left of the head pin on her 12th ball, leaving the 6-7-10 standing.

On December 27, she opened the tournament with a five-game pinfall of 1,058 for a 211.6 average (211, 175, 203, 214, 255), including a high game of 255 against Fairleigh Dickinson University.

She previously won the St. Paul’s College Tournament on December 2 with a 212.83 average. She won the 2006 Holiday Jamboree singles title with a 210.2 average.

Her play helped NJCU finish first overall among 14 schools in the team standings by 515 pins after 10 traditional team games and three quad-Baker matches, before falling to FDU, 4-games-to-3, in the finals. Spratford helped NJCU extend its winning streak to a school record 15 consecutive matches before being snapped; the Knights were 12-3 overall in NCAA matches in the tournament. NJCU also amassed three of its top four game scores of the season (1069, 1049, 1047). She also led NJCU to a 613 pins win over Cheyney University, a 1,049-436 decision—the most lopsided victory in program history.

Through December 29, Spratford leads the team with a 203.325 average in 40 games, and has a pinfall of 8133. Her average is almost nine pins per game better than anyone else on the roster. Including her high of 297, she has 21 games of 200 out of 40, six of 225 or better and three of 250-plus. She has placed first in one tournament, and fifth and seventh in her other two entries.
