For the first time in his career at New Jersey City University, senior righty BALDWIN VARGAS (New York, NY/Alfred Smith) has been named the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week.

The only player drafted from the New Jersey Athletic Conference last season (by the Chicago White Sox), Vargas, making his season debut this week for NJCU, was dominant in six innings of relief in two games against Richard Stockton College. For the week in three appearances over 7.1 innings, he struck out seven, allowed only six hits with four walks.

In an 11-7 win over Stockton on March 29, he pitched 4.0 innings of relief for the save. He allowed one run on only five hits, fanned five and walked one. In 2.0 innings against Stockton in game two, he shut down the Ospreys in the eighth and ninth innings. Facing seven batters he struck out one and walked one without allowing a hit.

In his first appearance on the season against William Paterson University on March 28, he allowed three earned runs in 1.1 innings, but just one hit. He walked two and fanned one.
