Freshman striker JENNIFER ALBUJA (Union City, NJ/Hoboken) is the NJCU Women's co-Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career after powering home seven goals in the first two games of her collegiate career. She was named New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Player of the Week for week two of the 2007 season.

She sparked the Gothic Knights to a 6-0 win over SUNY-Maritime on September 5 and a 7-0 rout of College of Saint Elizabeth on September 8 as NJCU opened a season with a 2-0 record for the first time in the 15-year history of the program. She had the eventual game-winning goal in each contest.

Her selection by the NJAC marks the first time since the 2001 season that a Gothic Knight rookie has been tabbed NJAC Rookie of the Week. The last player to do so was Carine Carvalheiro—the current all-time lead in goals (28), assists (21) and points (77) in school history—who was honored in week eight of that season. It is the sixth time since 1999 NJCU has received the accolade.

In the win over Maritime, Albuja scored four first half goals in the first game of her collegiate career, in what was the largest goal differential for a road season opener in program history and marked NJCU’s first road opening win since the 1996 season.

Albuja, an All-State high school recruit, established two records in the game. She set a school record for most goals by a player in their collegiate debut, and her four goals matched Kelly Daly’s 2005 mark for most goals in a season opener. It also marked the fourth time in school history that a player has had as many as four goals and eight points in one game; both totals tied for second most in single-game school history.

Albuja got NJCU on the board 14:43 into the contest when she uncorked an unassisted breakaway for a 1-0 lead. After NJCU went ahead 2-0, Albuja put the game out of reach with three goals in a span of 3:41, establishing a school record for the fastest three consecutive goals by the same player.   The goals came at 29:47, 30:44 and 33:28, respectively. Albuja finished with eight shots.

In NJCU’s rout of Saint Elizabeth, Albuja scored three more goals—the first, second and fourth goals of the game. Albuja gave NJCU a 1-0 edge at 17:44 of the first half off a feed. She needed no help on her second goal at 23:30, when she blasted a shot from 35 yards out that was unstoppable. Albuja unleashed a breakaway goal at 67:25.

She is NJCU’s leader in points (14), goals (7), shots (16), shots on goal (9) and game-winners (2).

Through the first two weeks of the season as of September 9, Albuja leads the NJAC in six categories—points, points per game (7.00), goals, goals per game (3.50), game-winning goals per game (1.00), and shots per game (8.00). She is tied for second in total game winners (2) and ranks tied for sixth in shots.
