Junior shortstop JOSE FULGENCIO (Bronx, NY/San Rafael, Dominican Republic) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for the third week in a row and the fourth time this spring as the pro-prospect broke the school record for longest consecutive hitting streak in NJCU history. Now at a school record 26 games with one game remaining in the season, he now owns the longest hitting streak in Division III this season.
In four games last week, Fulgencio batted .333 (5-15) with three RBIs and two runs scored. He increased his RBI total to an NJAC best 44—four shy of tying NJCU’s single-season record.
In NJCU’s 11-2 win over Baruch College on April 24, Fulgencio tied the school record by hitting safely in 23 consecutive games. He went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs and one intentional walk.
In an 8-1 loss to Montclair State on April 26, Fulgencio broke the school record by extending his streak to 24 straight, finishing 2-for-4 in the game.
In NJCU’s doubleheader loss to Rowan University on April 29, 5-4 and 6-3, he hit safely in each contest, including an RBI double in the first contest, to extend the streak to 26 games.
In 36 games, Fulgencio is batting .423 (58-137) with 44 RBIs, 33 runs, 14 doubles, five triples and three homers, and is 20-for-22 in steals.
