For the first time in her career, freshman ANGELA FITZGERALD (Jersey City, NJ/Marist) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week, after she posted a sensational effort of 26.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.0 steals an 0.5 blocks per game while shooting .385 from the field (15-39), .300 from three-point range (3-10) and .760 from the line (19-25). She scored 52 points and had 26 rebounds in two games, tallying 87 minutes (43.5 per game). She was also named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week.
In an 85-77 double overtime loss to Farmingdale State on November 28—the first double overtime game in NJCU history— Fitzgerald finished with a career-high 28 points on 9-of-21 shooting (2-6 3FG), with a career-best 18 rebounds (14 defensive) and three assists in 48 minutes before fouling out in the second overtime.
In a 70-67, final minute loss to Rowan University on December 1, Fitzgerald had a game-high 24 points—her third 20-point outburst in six games to open her career. She added eight rebounds (seven defensive) and six assists in 39 minutes, shooting 11-of-16 from the line and 6-of-18 from the field. Her lay-up with 6:05 left gave NJCU a 61-56 lead. She also hit a free throw for a 65-61 margin with 2:34 left and another foul shot with 2:01 left, making it 66-63.
In the NJAC statistical leaders through December 2, Fitzgerald currently leads the conference in scoring by nearly two points per game, with 118 points and 19.7 per game. She is also first in minutes (37.33, 224), second in defensive rebounding (7.67, 46), fourth in rebounding (10.5, 63), seventh in blocks (0.83, 5), eighth in assists (3.67, 22), 11th in assist/turnover ratio (0.71), 13th in offensive rebounding (2.83, 17), and 14th in free throw percentage (.722, 39-54).
