WEEK of: OCTOBER 22-28, 2007

For the 32nd time in her career and the seventh time this season, senior middle blocker LIZZELLE CINTRON (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) is the NJCU Women’s Athlete of the Week. She was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the 18th time in the last three seasons, and the sixth time this year for week nine of the 2007 season.

Cintron, the 2006-07 NJAC Female Athlete of the Year, led NJCU (27-4) to a 2-0 week, as the Knights defeated both Rowan University and Lehman College to improve to 27-4 overall while winning their 41st and 42nd consecutive home court matches. Cintron led the way with a staggering .622 percentage, averaging 7.33 points, 5.17 kills, 2.17 digs, 1.50 blocks and 0.33 aces per game on the week. She moved into sixth place in Division I, II and III history in kills and registered the 3,500th point of her career.

On October 23, when NJCU swept Rowan University, 3-0 (30-17, 30-15, 30-11), to finish with a perfect NJAC record (8-0) for the second time in three years, Cintron slammed 20 kills—more than the entire Rowan team—moving into sixth place in NCAA Division I, II and III history with 2,807. Cintron pounded 20 kills on 30 attempts (20-2-30) for a .600 hitting percentage, adding six digs and five blocks, as she increased her career points total to 3,497.5. With the 20 kills, she moved into sixth place in the history of collegiate volleyball at any level in 477 games with 2,807 kills, eclipsing Stacey Gordon of The Ohio State University, who has 2,798 kills in 457 games in her Division I career (2001-04).

In a 3-0 (30-9, 30-5, 30-10) dismantling of Lehman on October 25, Cintron posted more milestones, as she recorded the 3,500th point of her remarkable career. She hit .667 overall, with 11 kills (11-1-15), seven digs, and four blocks (two solo). She increased her career kills total to 2,818 and she needs only 32 more to move into fifth place in kills in Division I, II and III history.

In the NJAC statistical leaders through matches of October 31, Cintron leads the league in hitting percentage (.439), kills per game (5.94), total kills (570, second place player has 447), blocks per game (1.19), total points (692.0), points per game (7.21), and assisted blocks (78), lists third in total blocks (114.0),  seventh in total digs (337) and solo blocks (36), eighth in digs per game (3.51) and 16th in service aces (0.49).
