WEEK of: OCTOBER 29-NOVEMBER 4, 2007

For the 33rd time in her career, the eighth time this year and the second week in a row, senior middle blocker LIZZELLE CINTRON (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week, this week sharing the honor. While the NJCU women’s volleyball team may have come up short in its goal of winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship, Cintron did everything in her power to give the Gothic Knights a chance. For her efforts, Cintron was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Week, for week 10 of the 2007 season. It is the 19th time in the last three seasons, the seventh time this year and the second week in a row she has received the honor.

In a week of NJAC playoff matches, Cintron, the 2006-07 NJAC Female Athlete of the Year, posted perhaps the best statistical week of her career, as she averaged 9.64 points, 8.14 kills, 4.00 digs, 1.29 blocks and 0.57 aces per game while hitting .375 overall (57-15-112). She recorded her 101st career double-double, her 37th career match with 25 or more kills, 20th match with 30 or more kills, her 21st career 20-kill/20-dig match and her 28th career match with 20 or more digs. She had 57 kills in just seven games.

Cintron increased her all-time career kills total to 2,875 in 487 games, moving into fifth place in Division I, II and III history and third in the Division III annals, passing Division III Rockford’s Sarah Mosher (2,849 kills, 441 games, 2000-03) on the all-time list. She also had the 5,000th attack attempt of her career.

In a 3-0 (30-17, 30-20, 30-16) sweep of Ramapo College in the NJAC Semifinals on November 1, NJCU set a school record by winning 30 games in a row and extended its overall winning streak to 16 matches and home court winning streak to 43 in a row. In that match Cintron pounded 25 or more kills for the 36th time in her career, as she had four more than the entire Ramapo roster (21). She smacked 25 winners and only committed six errors for a .559 percentage (25-6-34), adding eight digs, four aces and three blocks. She increased her all-time career kills total to 2,843, and her career attack attempts total to 4,998.

When Montclair State University upset NJCU, 3-1 (30-27, 30-27, 19-30, 37-35), in the NJAC Finals on November 3, the loss spoiled a sensational effort by Cintron who crushed 32 kills (32-9-78), hit .295, and added 20 digs and six blocks.  With her seventh kill of the match, she moved into fifth place all-time in the category in NCAA history.

She is the current Division III national leader in kills per game and hitting percentage. In the NJAC statistical leaders through matches of November 3, Cintron leads the league in hitting percentage (.432), kills per game (6.09), total kills (627, second place player has 461), blocks per game (1.19), total points (759.5), points per game (7.37), and assisted blocks (83), lists tied for first in total blocks (123.0),  sixth in solo blocks (40), eighth in total digs (365) and digs per game (3.54) and 14th in service aces per game (0.50).
