For the first time in her career, senior KRISTINA FIGUEIREDO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week, this week as the co-Athlete of the Week, after she had a 220.6 average and high games of 256 and 242, as the #6 ranked New Jersey City University women’s bowling posted three wins over nationally ranked opponents, including its second win over Fairleigh Dickinson University this year, in the second of four North East Collegiate Women’s Bowling Conference (NEWCBC) meets. NJCU is 6-4 overall.
Individually, Figueiredo averaged 220.6 with a five-game pinfall of 1103 (256, 195, 242, 201, 209). Her top two scores came against FDU and SHU, and she went a perfect 5-0 in head-to-head action as NJCU’s No. 4 set-up bowler.
She rolled a 256 as NJCU opened action with one of its most lopsided victories in history over 2006 national champion FDU, as the Gothic Knights crushed the #3 ranked Knights, 1095-904, averaging 219.00 per player. It was NJCU’s second win over FDU in as many weeks.
She had a 195 when NJCU cruised past #19 Saint Peter’s College, 916-828. She tallied a 242 when NJCU defeated #7 Sacred Heart University, 1035-1001 in a match where each squad averaged over 200. In a nine-point loss to St. Francis College, 996-987, she chalked up a 201. In an eight-point setback to #17 Adelphi University, 948-940, the kept NJCU in the match with a 209.
