WEEK of: JANUARY 7-13, 2008
For the third time this season, freshman guard ANGELA FITZGERALD (Jersey City, NJ/Marist) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week after averaging 13.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 80.0 percent from the line. NJCU went 1-2 in a week of three road games during which the Gothic Knights played two nationally ranked schools that reached the Elite 8 a year ago.
In a 61-39 rout of Ramapo College in an New Jersey Athletic Conference North Division game on January 9, Fitzgerald tallied a game-best 15 points as NJCU held an opponent below 40 points for the first time this season, and the first time it has happened on the road since a 59-38 win at Ramapo on January 22, 1997. Fitzgerald notched 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting, and added four steals in 19 minutes.
In a 94-48 conference road loss to #11 ranked Kean University on January 12, Fitzgerald notched her fifth double-double of the season and had 15 points for a second straight game (7-18 FG), adding 12 rebounds in 39 minutes. It was the ninth time in 12 games to open her career that she has led NJCU in scoring.
In a 64-48 road loss to undefeated and #4 ranked New York University on January 7, she tallied nine points and seven rebounds in 38 minutes.
Through the first 12 games, Fitzgerald continues to average close to a double-double at 15.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, while averaging 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks in 34.8 minutes per game. She is shooting .357 from the field (60-168) and .723 (60-83).
