Junior SHAWN McCORMICK (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for the first time in his Gothic Knight athletics career for men's soccer, volleyball or baseball. McCormick has been a starting defender for NJCU, and only started the 2008 season as NJCU’s fifth-string, emergency keeper. 

But when injuries mounted, McCormick, who had only played keeper in practice situations during his three-year career, saw his first career action in net and amazingly posted back-to-back shutouts to lead NJCU to the championship of the Joe Pombriant Classic hosted by Christopher Newport University at Captains Field in Newport News, VA.

In a 4-0 win over Methodist University on September 10, McCormick recorded a shutout in his first-ever collegiate appearance in goal, making two saves. The win was the 350^th in 
the 50-year history of the men’s soccer program.

He recorded his second shutout in as many games on Sunday as NJCU and CNU played to a 0-0 double overtime tie. He made three saves, including two in overtime, to preserve the shutout and keep NJCU unbeaten in five straight games. He led NJCU to its third shutout of the year in what was the 800^th game played in the 50-year history of the program.

McCormick opened the week on September 10, starting as a defender in NJCU’s 3-1 win over John Jay College. He had one shot on goal in 77 minutes.
