ALEX JOHANESEN, the Gothic Knights' top scholar-athlete with an active 3.90 GPA, has been named the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career and has also been named the New
Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the first time.
The NJAC leader in assists at 9.46 per set, Johanesen had her best week of the season, guiding NJCU to a team hitting percentage of .283 and 11.50 kills per game as she compiled 61 assists in six games for a 10.17 per set average. Behind her, NJCU went 2-0 to improve to 4-4 overall and outside hitter Jacqueline LeBlanc, who was named NJAC Player of the Week on September 8 and 15, averaged 4.00 kills per set.
Of her 105 set attempts for the week, 61 went for kills for an impressive .581 assist percentage. Johanesen also landed four aces for a 0.67 per set average, adding two blocks.
In NJCU’s conference opening sweep of Rutgers-Newark on September 16 (25-10, 25-11, 25-15)—the Gothic Knights’ 12th consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference regular season victory—Johansen guided the NJCU offense to a .342 hitting percentage (35-9-76), posting 30 assists along with three of NJCU’s 11 aces. NJCU has won six of the last seven meetings with the Scarlet Raiders.
In a 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-18) sweep of Farmingdale State College on the road on September 18, Johanesen guided the NJCU offense to a .224 hitting percentage (34-17-76), posting 31 assists along with two assisted blocks, adding an ace.
In addition to her ranking in assists, Johanesen is currently eighth in the league in service aces per set at 0.61 with 17 overall in 28 games.
