WEEK of: APRIL 20-26, 2009
Freshman shortstop
MEGAN GINTER (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) is the NJCU Women’s Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career as she batted .438 for the week as NJCU closed the season with a pair of wins, including its first home win against defending New Jersey Athletic Conference Champion Montclair State University in school history. She hit 7-for-16 with three runs, three RBIs and a double.
In a doubleheader with Staten Island on April 23, Ginter was a combined 5-for-8 in the two games. Ginter had a 2-for-4 outing in the opener, won by CSI, 3-2.
In game two, won by NJCU 6-5 in eight innings, Ginter was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs for NJCU, including a double. Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ginter blooped a single over first base and onto the right field line to tie the game at 5-5 before advancing on the basepaths and scoring the winning run. Earlier in the game, trailing 2-1, Ginter put NJCU in front when she launched a double into left-center for a 3-2 lead before scoring herself to extend the lead to 4-2.
Ginter was 1-for-2 in a loss to TCNJ on April 25. On April 26 in the win over Montclair, she scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning. Reaching on an infield single she took advantage of a bad throw and her speed, to claim second base on an errant throw, then moved to third base on a passed ball before putting NJCU in front 3-2, scoring on a single. It snapped MSU’s 14-game winning streak in the series and marked the first time in history that NJCU beat the Red Hawks in Jersey City.
