Freshman ISHMEAL ROBBINS (Irvington, NJ/Irvington) is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after becoming the fourth different Gothic Knight sprinter in four years to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference title in 200-meter dash. He also helped New Jersey City University take the conference gold in the 4x100-meter relay for the second consecutive year and the third time in five seasons as the Gothic Knight men’s outdoor track and field team placed seventh overall at the 2009 NJAC Track and Field Championships on May 2.

 

For the fourth consecutive year an NJCU sprinter won the NJAC title in the 200-meter dash as Robbins claimed the 200 in a photo finish in the 24-man field in 22.25 seconds, earning 10 points for NJCU while exceeding the ECAC Championship qualifying mark of 22.45 seconds.

 

In the 100-meter dash, Robbins was first of 13 sprinters in the trials in an ECAC qualifying mark of 11.05 seconds. He was fourth in the finals, timing 11.09 seconds.

 

In the 4x100-meter relay, Robbins ran the second leg as NJCU also qualified for the ECACs in a season’s-best 41.98 seconds, defeating the six-team field by 24/100^th of a second.
