In her first season as a striker for
New Jersey City University after a standout, 22-goal rookie season at Rutgers-Newark, sophomore transfer
JULIA CASERES (Union, NJ/Union) made an immediate impact scoring three goals with an assist for seven points in three games. She averaged 1.00 goals and 2.33 points per game. She had 13 shots (seven on goal). She was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week and is the NJCU Women’s Athlete of the Week for the first time.
Caseres currently leads the NJAC in total points (7) and is tied for the conference lead in goals (3).
She scored twice, including the tie-breaking, game-winning goal, as NJCU opened the season on September 1 with a 4-1 win at Mount Saint Mary College. Her first NJCU goal, just 1:14 after MSMC had tied it at 1-1, was the winner as she headed home a corner kick inside the back post. She added the fourth goal of the game in the second half on a penalty kick.
In a back-and-forth game on September 4 against Farmingdale State College at the FSC Tournament, Caseres forced a 2-2 tie at 82:30 of the second half—just 25 seconds after Farmingdale State College had gained a 2-1 advantage before the Rams edged the Knights, 3-2.
Caseres, who now has 25 goals in 22 career collegiate contests, had a hand in both NJCU tallies, assisting on the opening goal that also tied the game at 1-1.
