WEEK of: NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 6, 2009
Senior
JENN MARMO (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon (NY)) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week for the fifth time in her career.
Marmo took over the anchor role in a major way as New Jersey City University went a perfect 11-0 at the Jeannette Lee Invitational, extending its winning streak to 12 and its record of 29-15. NJCU placed second of 20 schools.
On the opening day when NJCU went 6-0 with wins over Fayetteville State University, Virginia State University, Livingstone College, Elizabeth City State University, Bowie State University and Chowan University, Marmo placed 10th of 133 individuals with a total pinfall of 1151 (139-181-247-231-152-201) and a 191.83 average. Her 247 against Livingstone was the second highest score of the tournament.
During the Baker portion, when NJCU was the only team to roll an 800 in 100 total Baker games, and the Knights did so in three of five matches, Marmo was the anchor and she was on fire. In all, 34 of her 61 shots were strikes and she only had five opens, either on splits or washouts.
She helped NJCU post wins over North Carolina Central University, St. Augustine’s College, St. Paul's College, Johnson C. Smith University and #16 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. NJCU had incredible margins during the Baker portion, defeating NCCA by 190, St. Augustine’s by 160, St. Paul’s by 271 after bowling a 854, JCSU by 183 after rolling an 842, and #16 UWW by 101 with an 822 Baker mark.
