Senior point guard JOSH LOPEZ (Jersey City, NJ/St. Mary’s (Jersey City)) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week and sixth time in his career. He led New Jersey City University to a 3-0 week, including a road upset of #8 ranked and two-time defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion Richard Stockton College, as he averaged 16.0 points, 4.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, while shooting 40.0 percent from three point range (6-15), 43.3 percent from the field (13-30) and 16-of-20 from the line, and 80 percent rate. NJCU (5-1, 1-0 NJAC) has won five consecutive games.

In a 73-48 win over St. Joseph’s Brooklyn on November 30, Lopez scored a game-best 15 points in 22 minutes to pace a balanced offensive attack in which 12 different Gothic Knights scored. He added five rebounds, four assists and two steals, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor (.556), 2-of-4 from three-point range (.500) and 3-of-4 from three-point range.

In an 89-78 win on December 3 against 2009 Elite 8 qualifier Farmingdale State College, Lopez led his club in scoring for the fourth straight game, pouring in 17 points, including 9-of-12 from the line, with five assists, four rebounds and two steals. He converted two more threes, bringing his career total to 122. A three-pointer by Lopez 57 seconds into the game put NJCU in front for the rest of the night and his assist put the Knights ahead 10-0 just 4:08 into the contest.

On December 5, NJCU stunned #8 Richard Stockton in Pomona, NJ, where the Ospreys had lost just once on their home floor in the past 25 games. Lopez, who has averaged 16.0 points per game during NJCU’s five-game winning streak, made 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-4 threes, while sinking all four free throws for a 16-point, five-assist performance. It was his second straight five-assist effort.

After Stockton scored first, Lopez hit a three to open a 12-1 run that saw the Knights grab a 12-3 lead. Lopez made another jumper and hit a three with 11:43 left in the period before NJCU took a 22-9 lead. After Stockton moved in front by five in the second half, NJCU went back on top and Lopez extended the cushion to four, 72-68, with two foul shots. RSC cut it to 72-71. But with 1:33 left Lopez drilled a critical, spinning, 16-foot jumper from the left of the lane for a 74-71 lead and Lopez sealed the win with two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining for the 76-71 result.
