Freshman power forward ISAIAH JOHNSON (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career. He was also named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week. The award is for week four of the 2009-10 season and is the first honor of his career.
Johnson averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game for NJCU, shooting 61.1 percent from the field (11-18) and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line.
In a loss (77-62) to Brooklyn College on December 8, he came off the bench and contributed eight points (4-6 FG) and four rebounds in 16 minutes.
In a 68-60 loss at York College (NY) on December 12, Johnson made his first career start, and had team-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes, adding a block, steal and an assist. He shot 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line while scoring the most points by an NJCU rookie this year and the second most by any member of the team.
For the year, Johnson is averaging 9.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.5 blocks and 0.4 assists per game in 145 minutes over eight contests. He is shooting .540 from the field (27-50) and .679 from the line (19-28).
He ranks second on NJCU in points and rebounding and third in field goal percentage. Among the NJAC leaders, he currently ranks seventh in field goal percentage and offensive rebounds (20, 2.50 per game), 19
th in rebounding, tied for 22
nd in blocked shots, 24
th in free throw percentage and 27
th in scoring.
