EBONY CUNNINGHAM (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) is the NJCU Women's Athlete of the Week for the third time this season and the fourth time in her career. She continued her standout play in a 1-1 week for NJCU, as she averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 1.0 assists and 0.5 blocks per game.
In a 75-68 come-from-behind win over St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn) in a non-conference game on December 28 at the IZOD Center, she notched her third consecutive double-double and ninth of her career, collecting 18 points (6-11 FG, 5-11 FT) with 11 rebounds and three steals.
In a one-point, 63-62 loss to Simmons College on December 29, Cunningham matched a team-high with 17 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists. She played a key role in keeping NJCU in the contest, tying it at 42-42 with a three-point play with 11:04 left. After NJCU fell behind by six, Cunningham had a steal before hitting two foul shots and seized another steal for a fast-break bucket with 9:15 left, tying the game at 48-48. Her steal and assist put NJCU in front, 57-54 with under five minutes remaining.
For the year, Cunningham continues to be NJCU's leading scorer and rebounder. In 10 contests she is averaging 16.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 1.1 assists and 0.2 blocks per game, while shooting 61-of-171 from the field (.357) and 11-46 from three-point distance (.239), with a .563 free throw percentage
In the NJAC, Cunningham currently ranks third in scoring and offensive rebounds (42, 4.20 per game), fourth in minutes played (327, 32.70 per game), sixth in steals, seventh in rebounding, 12th in three-pointers made (1.10 per game, 11), tied for 13th in defensive rebounding (39, 3.90 per game), 14th in three-point percentage, 19th in free throw percentage, and 26th in field goal percentage.
