WEEK of: SEPTEMBER 20-26, 2010
Sophomore forward NANA KOFI KUSI (Jersey City, NJ/Kumasi Academy (Ghana)) is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after netting a goal in each game during a 1-1 week for the Gothic Knight men’s soccer team.
In a 2-1 victory over Rowan University on September 25, his first goal of the game helped NJCU defeat the Profs for the fifth time in six meetings while winning its first New Jersey Athletic Conference game of the year and end a five-game losing skid. NJCU is 3-5 and 1-2 NJAC.
In the win over Rowan, he attempted two shots and both were on goal. At 10:32 of the first half, his third goal of the season made it 1-0. After a through ball from teammate Oluwole Seydou allowed him to split two defenders, Kofi Kusi sprinted to the box on a breakaway and beat the 2009 NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year, Rowan’s Charlie Cunliffe, with a shot into the right of the target.
Later in the game, Kofi Kusi nearly helped NJCU take a two-goal lead, as he beat two defenders with his dribbling and centered a ball to a teammate all alone in the box, before it was stopped.
In a 4-1 loss at Ramapo College on September 22, Kofi Kusi scored NJCU’s only goal, and finished with four shots (two on goal). His goal came at exactly 70:00 of the second half, ripping home a shot on the far post.
For the year in eight games (three starts), Kofi Kusi has seven points on three goals and one assist, adding 12 shots (four shots on goal), and has played 318 total minutes.
