Junior point guard KEITH WILLIAMS (Jersey City, NJ/Create Charter) is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career after a pair of outstanding efforts in a 2-0 week for the Gothic Knights. He shot 66.7 percent from the field as a guard and 71.4 percent from three-point distance, while averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.0 assists and 0.5 blocks per game. He scored 15 points in each game and shot 12-of-18 from the floor and 5-of-7 from three-point range.
In NJCU’s 97-44 rout of St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn) at the Prudential Center in Newark on January 5—its most lopsided win since 1989 and the fifth most in school history—Williams collected 11 of his 15 points in the opening period as NJCU built a 31-point, 49-18 halftime cushion. He made 6-of-8 from the floor and connected on 3-of-4 from three-point territory, while adding seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
In NJCU’s 71-69 NJAC win at The College of New Jersey on January 8, Williams tallied 15 for the second straight game. He collected 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and made 2-of-3 from three-point distance, with three assists and two steals. Among his important baskets in the game, he scored on a layup with 10:45 remaining for a 51-50 lead. He also made one foul shot with 14.3 seconds remaining to give NJCU the final 71-69 margin; TCNJ was unable to tie it at the end.
Williams currently leads the NJAC in steals per game (3.5), ranks second in three-point
percentage (.444), eighth in three-pointers made per game (1.5), 11th in assists (3.0), 12th in field goal percentage (.506), 15th in free throw percentage (.683), 17th in assist/turnover ratio (0.9), 18th in scoring (11.3), 21st in defensive rebounding (3.2 p/g) and 34th in rebounding (3.7)
