Senior guard #CAROLINA GARCIA# (Plainfield, NJ/Franklin) is the NJCU Women’s Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in her career and the third week in a row after averaging 15.7 points per game. She tallied 47 points in three games as NJCU went 1-2 and added 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting .314 (16-51) from the field, .350 from three-point range (7-20) and 8-of-10 from the line (.800).
Garcia moved into 10th place in program history with 836 career points. She played in 102 of a possible 120 points in the three games, including all 40 minutes in losses to Ramapo College and Rowan University.
In NJCU’s most lopsided win since 2006, Garcia scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting with three rebounds as the Gothic Knights routed City Tech on the road, 68-27 on January 17.
In a loss at Ramapo on January 19 (79-44), she collected 18 points (7-21 FG) and made 4-of-10 from three-point distance, with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. In a loss at Rowan on January 22 (78-43), Garcia tallied a game-high 15 points with three assists.
Garcia is NJCU’s leading scorer this season at 12.7 per game. In 13 games (11 starts) she has 165 points while adding 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 1.5 assists and 0.5 blocks per game. She is shooting .340 from the field (70-206), .259 from three-point range (14-54) and .611 from the foul line (11-18).
Garcia is No. 2 in the NJAC in minutes per game (34.8), tied for ninth in scoring average and 10th with 1.3 three-pointers made per game.
