Junior shortstop MEGAN GINTER (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) of the Gothic Knight softball team is the NJCU Women’s Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row and the third time in her career after producing another stellar week, posting a .688 on-base percentage while batting .500 (5-for-10) with five runs, three RBIs and five steals in five attempts as the club’s leadoff hitter. She added a double, triple and homerun on the week as NJCU went 2-2. She also walked five times and was hit by a pitch.
In two wins over Brooklyn College on March 18, 10-2 and 8-0, Ginter was 3-for-6 with three runs, three RBIs, two steals and her second career homerun in the twinbill. She was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run in game one. In game two she scored twice, walked twice, and stole two bases, going 1-for-2 with one RBI—a solo homerun that was her second career round tripper.
In a pair of one-run losses at Hunter College on March 19—7-6 and 3-2—Ginter was a combined 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, triple, with three steals and three walks. She walked twice and scored a run in game one. In game two she was 2-for-2 with one run, a double and a triple. NJCU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Ginter led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly. She added a third-inning double when NJCU tied the game at 2-2.
Overall, Ginter is batting .500 through 12 games with 22 hits in 44 at bats and is a perfect 16-for-16 in steals. As a team, NJCU is a stellar 49-for-50 in steal attempts. She has scored 15 runs and generated 11 RBIs with four doubles, two triples and one homer for 33 total bases. Additionally, she has walked seven times and owns a .577 on-base percentage and .750 slugging rate.
