Junior catcher #FRANCISCO RAMIREZ# (Jersey City, NJ/Hudson Catholic) is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in his career and the second time this season after he collected multiple hits and had an RBI in all four games (1-3) played by NJCU last week, batting .533 (8-15) with five RBIs, two runs and two doubles. He also walked twice and was hit by two pitches and had an on-base percentage of .632 while playing flawless defense behind the plate in 14 chances.
In a wild, 19-16 loss to Ramapo College on April 18, Ramirez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs with a double, walk and run scored. He was 2-for-3 with one RBI in NJCU’s 5-4 win against St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) on April 19.
On April 21 in a loss at The College of New Jersey, Ramirez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and one double. The next day he was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI in a home loss to TCNJ.
For the season, Ramirez entered the week as NJCU’s leading hitter at .361 (35-97) with a team-best 25 RBIs. He has scored 19 runs and has 10 extra base hits (nine doubles, one homerun) for 47 total bases and a slugging percentage of .485. Ramirez also had a team-high 18 walks and has been hit by four pitches and owns a club best .460 on-base percentage. He also leads the team in sacrifice flies (5). Behind the plate he has been brilliant defensively with a .994 fielding percentage and only one error in 159 chances. He has thrown out seven potential base stealers.
