Senior striker #JULIA CASERES# (Union, NJ/Union) is the first NJCU women’s athlete of the week of the 2011 season and earns the award for the 11th time in her three-year Gothic Knight career after being named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in three seasons at New Jersey City University. Caseres netted five goals and two assists for 12 points in three games as the Gothic Knights opened the year with a 3-0 record and captured the championship of the Michelle Robin-Vargas Memorial Tournament in New Paltz, NY.

Caseres moved within one point of becoming only the 32nd player in Division III women’s soccer history to score 200 career points. During the week, 11 of her 20 shots were on goal—a .550 percentage. She had one game-winning goal to increase her school record to 14 career game-winners. Caseres eclipsed 80 career goals and now has 83 goals, 33 assists and 199 points. She is one assist shy of matching the career school record of 26 set by current assistant coach Katie Feehan from 2004-07.

In a season-opening 6-1 win over King’s College on September 1, Caseres had five points on two goals and one assist. She attempted 11 shots in the game, including five on goal.

In an 8-0 rout of SUNY Canton in the tournament’s opening round on September 3, she netted three goals and one assist. Caseres notched her 11th hat trick in three seasons at NJCU and her eighth career game with at least seven points for the Knights, while scoring the first, third and fifth goals of the game. She contributed her 25th assist as a Gothic Knight.

In a 1-0 overtime victory in the tournament’s championship game against host New Paltz, she had three shots (one on goal), despite being double and triple teamed for much of the contest. NJCU won a road overtime game for the first time in the 19-year history of the program and the third tournament title in school history.

Caseres currently leads the NJAC in points (12), points per game (4.00), goals (5), shots (20), and shots per game (6.67).
