WEEK of: SEPTEMBER 5-11, 2011

Senior striker #JENNIFER ALBUJA# (Union City, NJ/Hoboken) is the NJCU women’s athlete of the week for the ninth time in her Gothic Knight career after netting two goals during the week, including the game-winner in the 106th minute of double overtime on September 7 as NJCU won its second consecutive overtime game, 1-0, at Neumann University. She had 10 shots, including five on goal.

In the Neumann win, Albuja scored her 70th career goal at the 105:36 mark to give NJCU its second consecutive road overtime victory. She had four shots, including two on goal. With the second overtime winding down to the final four minutes, Albuja, who used her speed to beat a defender to the top of the 18 on the right side, received a pass from teammate Julia Caseres, before unleashing a cannon-like shot into the right of the net to win it.

In a 5-1 win over SUNY Purchase in a shortened NJCU Liberty Cup on September 10, Albuja scored a scintillating goal. At the 50:16 mark, Caseres delivered a pass onto the feet of Albuja for a breakaway. Albuja made an elusive move to sidestep the charging opposing keeper before calmly tapping home a shot into the now empty net.  She had six shots in the game, with three on goal.

Albuja, who is still NJCU’s career goal scoring leader, improved her career points total to 155 (71 goals, 13 assists) in 64 games. She has five goals and three assists for 13 points in five games as the Knights have outscored opponents, 21-2. She has 23 shots, with 13 on goal in 404 minutes of action. As of September 12, Albuja ranks second in the NJAC in assists, third in points, points per game (2.60), shots, fourth in goals, goals per game (1.00), game-winning goals (1, 0.20 per game), shots per game (4.60), and fifth in assists per game (0.60).
