Sophomore forward #ALNISA HERNAIZ# (Irvington, NJ/Irvington) has been named the NJCU Women’s Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career and the second week in a row after notching her second double-double of the season and fifth of her career in the Gothic Knights’ 56-12 rout of Vaughn College on December 17 as NJCU won its third game in a row to improve to 3-5.
 
Hernaiz scored 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds with two steals in a light 21 minutes of action in the win as NJCU limited an opponent to the second fewest points in program history.
 
For the season, Hernaiz has started all eight games and has collected 81 points, 62 rebounds (23 offensive, 39 defensive), 14 steals and five assists in 219 minutes, while shooting .432 from the floor (32-74) and .680 from the foul line (17-25). She is averaging 10.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 0.6 assists per game.
 
Among the New Jersey Athletic Conference leaders, Hernaiz currently lists fifth in defensive rebounding (4.9 per game), seventh in rebounding, 10th in offensive rebounding (2.9 per game), 14th in field goal percentage, 17th in free throw percentage, 21st in scoring, and 23rd in steals.
